Setting Nonprofit Goals to Look Like a Winner

Setting nonprofit goals can be tricky: Are you setting them too low or too high? Should you even announce your goals?

Let’s get some outside perspective. Seth Godin recently pointed out an interesting application for Kickstarter projects: Once a project receives over 50% of its funding goal, its chances of full-funding success skyrocket.

What’s the application for nonprofits? Your organization’s goals need to be perceived as not only achievable, but inevitable. Don’t worry too much about setting “too low” a goal, because donors would rather pay above and beyond an achieved goal than contribute to one that might not be reached.
