About

Courtney Consulting empowers small and start-up nonprofits to lead with evidence, plan with purpose, and sustain their missions with confidence. Founded by Dr. Matthew B. Courtney, an expert in evidence-based improvement and strategic planning, the firm was created around a simple belief: every nonprofit—regardless of size—deserves access to the same high-quality, academically rigorous strategic planning and program evaluation services as large organizations.

We specialize in helping mission-driven organizations build clarity, alignment, and measurable impact. Through strategic planning, we guide nonprofits in developing clear, actionable roadmaps that align their programs, boards, and teams around shared goals. Our process combines data-informed analysis with inclusive facilitation, ensuring that every voice in the organization contributes to a vision that is both aspirational and achievable. Clients leave the process with a strategic plan they can actually use—one that drives decision-making, fundraising, and accountability.

Through program evaluation, we help nonprofits prove and improve their impact. Using evidence-based methodologies, we design custom evaluation plans that fit each organization’s scale and capacity. Our goal is to demystify data collection and analysis, equipping leaders with the tools they need to understand what’s working, what’s not, and how to tell their story to funders and stakeholders.

At Courtney Consulting, we act as both guide and partner. We walk alongside nonprofit leaders as they transform passion into measurable progress, helping them turn insight into action. Whether we’re leading a full-scale strategic planning retreat or designing a simple logic model, our approach is collaborative, practical, and grounded in evidence.

Ultimately, our work helps nonprofits make smarter decisions, strengthen their credibility, and secure the resources they need to thrive—because great missions deserve to last.
