Standing up for something real and important means not everyone will be your friend. Sometimes, they’ll even be your enemies.
You can’t get everyone to agree with you all the time. There aren’t thousands of nonprofit organizations because everyone agrees on what’s important to fix. Your nonprofit exists to address a very specific collection of concerns and problems–and it will only resonate with a specific collection of people. Standing up for something means making other people uncomfortable. It’s inevitable.
If your nonprofit organization is committed to doing gritty, remarkable work in the world (and the world desperately needs that work), it’s worth stepping on a few toes and committing to your mission.
