Last week, we shared some of our favorite nonprofit articles that we had written in 2014. But we didn’t want to leave it at just that. Some of our favorite nonprofit experts wrote great posts this past year.
That’s why we wanted to pay tribute to them. From fundraising to social media and everything in between, these are the top five nonprofit articles we loved around the web in 2014.
1. Double Your Digital Fundraising by Fixing Donation Forms
We’re reaching all the way back to January for this one from 101fundraising. We loved this article because so many of us fail with our donation forms (without even realizing it). And despite the easy fixes, it’s common belief that if you have a great mission, the rest will fall into place.
But that’s not exactly true. We’ve got some work to do! Plus, this article comes with a case study. Let’s just say we’re a big fan of case studies at the Hub.
2. Confessions of a Nonprofit Board Member—7 Dos and Don’ts
One of our favorite topics that doesn’t get talked about enough is board members—which is why we loved this article filled with confessions of a nonprofit board member. Our friend Jay Love over at Bloomerang touched upon some things that might get overlooked. Jay is a board member for numerous nonprofits, which makes this article so awesome.
3. Does Responsive Design Really Raise More Money for Nonprofits? [INFOGRAPHIC]
How could we NOT throw in an infographic? Blackbaud put together a tell-all article about why your organization needs a responsive design. The simple answer? Better conversion rates. But this article gives you a more in-depth analysis AND has a beautifully designed infographic.
4. 13 Ways to Boost Facebook Page Reach Without Spending a Single Dime
For social media, we’re throwing it to the resident nonprofit social media guru, John Haydon. Back in August, John wrote about ways to boost Facebook page reach without spending any money. One of our favorite rules of thumb is as follows: would you ‘like’ the post yourself? Would you be excited about it?
We put this article in our top five because all nonprofits are on a budget, and Facebook made some major changes that made it difficult to get noticed in the newsfeed.
5. Listen Your Way to the (Major) Gift
Raise your hand if you don’t want a major gift to your organization. Nobody? Not surprising, because we all want to secure major donations to help reach our missions. And Gail Perry wrote an article back in September that makes total sense—your donors don’t want to listen to a presentation. Yet, so many of us set up a presentation and then wonder why it failed. Converse with your donor. Make them the VIP. Check out Gail’s article for more.
Well, there you have it. Those are the nonprofit articles we liked most in 2014. But trust us, there were too many articles to count. What would you add to the list from 2014?
